Despite the recent doping reports in athletics, Kenyan athletes are not outweighed by the vice.
Hundreds of athletes train in the slopes of Iten, which is the home of world athletic champions ahead of the Olympic Games in Brazil in August.
World record holder David Rudisha is training today with his brother and believes doping ruins the reputation of athletes.
“By doing such things it’s just killing the sport, and that is what we really discourage. We tell all sports people, and even those that are upcoming there will be time for everything. And if you have talent, why doubt yourself. If you train well, get the best coaching, get the best places to do your training, you’ll make it,” he said.
The country recently faced a blow when about 30 athletes were banned for doping including a former president of the Kenyan Athletics Federation.
Many Kenyans fear doping is rife among their top-class athletes, who have been the source of enormous national pride.
